Colorado Railroad Museum

Visit the Colorado Rail Museum to learn about the history of this region from the 1860s to present. This museum's mission is to acquire, preserve and exhibit railroad equipment, artifacts, and photographs emphasizing Rocky Mountain area railroads.

 

Georgetown Loop Railroad

This spectacular stretch of three-foot narrow gauge was considered an engineering marvel in its time.

 

Glenwood Springs

Located in the heart of Colorado's Rocky Mountains, Glenwood Springs is the perfect Colorado Mountain town with a wonderful variety of attractions and activities that can be enjoyed any time of year. No matter what you like to do, Glenwood Springs is bound to have something perfect for you to enjoy. Their world-famous hot springs are not to be missed!

 

Silverton

Nestled at 9,318 feet, Silverton resides in the heart of the San Juan Mountain range. The former mining boomtown was designated a National HIstoric Landmark District in 1961. Enjoy some free time to explore the historic town, visit its many local galleries and stores, and have lunch on your own.

 

Durango Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad

"All aboard!" for a delightful trip through the Colorado Rockies between Silverton and Durango on one of the last narrow gauge railroads operating in the US. The rugged peaks, alpine meadows, and crystal lakes take you back to the early days of the West when mountain men searched this untouched land for traces of bear and mountain lion.

 

Durango

Durango's temperate climate and unique landscape features numerous entertainment opportunities that have something for even the most discerning tastes. Check out southwestern Colorado's cosmopolitan side when you experience all of the comforts and attractions that downtown Durango has to offer. Immerse yourself in the town's vibrant heritage, savor a gourmet meal at one of the area's many cafes or restaurants, take in a show at a Durango theatre or music venue, or feed your creative side at one of Durango's museums or art galleries.

 

Mesa Verde National Park

Travel to nearby Mesa Verde National Park for a day of exploration. Here you will visit cliff dwellings where the mysterious Anasazi once lived. Known as the "Ancient Ones" to the Navajo, the Anasazi lived in the Four Corners area almost a thousand years ago, then suddenly disappeared leaving behind their incredibly well-preserved dwellings. This is the nation's largest archeological preserve with 4,000 sights including 600 cliff dwellings. Spend some time in the Visitors Center with its large collection of ancient artifacts for an introduction to the ancient culture. A local expert will guide you through the most famous ruin sites with a stop at the Spruce Tree House Restaurant for lunch on own.

 

Pagosa Springs

Nestled in southwest Colorado this is one of the state's last undiscovered gems. Pagosa Springs gets its name from the Southwestern Ute word, "Pagosah" which now translates as, "healing waters." The area is known for its amazing hot springs, abundant sunshine, and small-town feel.

 

With a rich cultural history, Pagosa Springs is a gateway to the past as much as it is a gateway to adventure and it begs to be explored.

 

Royal Gorge Park & Bridge

Royal Gorge Park boasts the highest and most famous suspension bridge in America. Towering 956 feet above the Arkansas River, the Royal Gorge Bridge offers the perfect vantage point to take in Colorado's iconic natural beauty. Venture out onto the bridge for breathtaking views and learn more about this incredible engineering feat.

Pikes Peak Cog Railway

Take a ride on the Pikes Peak Cog Railway to the top of Pikes Peak. Looking at this famous peak, rising 12,110 feet above sea level, you will understand the meaning of "Rocky Mountain High!" They say every journey begins with a single step, and yours begins right here with a nine-mile journey, 14,115 feet in altitude and sweeping 360-degree views on the world's highest cog railroad.

Learn about the history of Denver, Colorado from its founding in 1858 to modern-day. Located on the banks of the South Platte River, close to the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, "The Mile High City" was founded in November 1858 as a gold mining town. Throughout the years it has gone from having a small urban core surrounded by rural farms to a booming downtown dotted with skyscrapers. The picturesque mountain panorama from Denver is 140 miles long with 200 visible named peaks including 32 that soar to 13,000 feet and above.

For air tours, only 1 piece of checked baggage is allowed. Airlines charge passengers for their first piece of checked baggage. This is payable by credit card at the airport.

 

Prices are estimated until 2022 airfare is confirmed. Air schedules will be determined 30 days prior to departure. Although we try, we cannot guarantee seating requests.

 

The deposit is $300 per person. The final payment is due by 5/27/2022.

 

Cancellation penalties: If cancellation occurs from booking date to 5/26/22, a $25.00 per person penalty will be assessed. If cancellation occurs between 5/27/22 and 9/10/22, the passenger is in full penalty and no refund will be granted. In addition to the cancellation polices listed above, if additional payments have been made to Starr for the purpose of securing your airline reservation, these monies are non-refundable once received. Any name changes after final payment is made will be assessed a per person change fee. The amount of the fee will be determined by the airline.

9/10/2022: Fly to CO. Arrive at the Denver Airport today and take your shuttle to the hotel where you will meet your local guide. Tonight, meet the group for a get-acquainted dinner.

Day 2:

9/11/2022: Georgetown Train - Glenwood Springs, CO
This morning our first stop will be at the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden. This museum's mission is to acquire, preserve and exhibit railroad equipment, artifacts, and photographs emphasizing Rocky Mountain area railroads. You will learn about the history of this region from the 1860s to present. After departing the museum, we are on our way to the town of Georgetown, nestled in the mountains, to take a journey on the historic Georgetown Loop Railroad. This spectacular stretch of 3-foot narrow gauge was considered an engineering marvel. Next, continue your journey through the Rockies for the scenic mountain town of Glenwood Springs and your overnight stay. This evening you may enjoy a soak in the local hot springs.

Day 3

9/12/2022: Silverton - Durango Railroad
This morning, travel to the historic town of Silverton and enjoy some free time to explore the many shops and have lunch on your own. After your explorations, board the Durango Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, one of the last such railroads operating in the United States. "All aboard!" for a delightful trip through the Colorado Rockies between Silverton and Durango. The rugged peaks, alpine meadows, and crystal lakes take you back to the early days of the West when mountain men searched this untouched land for traces of bear and mountain lion. Upon arrival in Durango re-board your motorcoach and check into your hotel for a 2 night stay with the rest of the day free to explore this fun western town on your own.

Day 4

9/13/2022: Mesa Verde National Park
After breakfast, travel to nearby Mesa Verde National Park for a day of exploration. Here you will visit cliff dwellings where the mysterious Anasazi once lived. Known as the "Ancient Ones" to the Navajo, the Anasazi lived in the Four Corners area almost a thousand years ago, then suddenly disappeared leaving their incredibly well-preserved dwellings to intrigue and challenge modern man. This is the nation's largest archeological preserve with 4,000 sights including 600 cliff dwellings. Spend some time in the Visitors Center with its large collection of ancient artifacts for an introduction to the ancient culture. A local expert will guide you through the most famous ruin sites with a stop at the Spruce Tree House Restaurant for lunch on own. After a fascinating tour of the park, return to Durango for dinner on your own.

Day 5

9/14/2022: Pagosa Hot Spring - Royal Gorge
This morning depart for Pagosa Springs, Nestled in southwest Colorado, this is one of the state's last undiscovered gems. Known for its amazing hot springs, it offers healing waters and an enigmatic town. Stop for lunch as you travel to Royal Gorge Park & Bridge, where the world's highest suspension bridge towers 1,053 feet above the Arkansas River. Here you will have time to walk out on the bridge, have dinner on your own and explore other sights in the park.

Day 6

9/15/2022: Canon City - Colorado Springs
Pack up your bags, partner, because today you are off on another adventure! This morning, board the Royal Gorge Route Railroad for a vintage train ride along the legendary Arkansas River deep within the Gorge. After lunch on-own in the town of Canon City, travel to Manitou Springs and take a ride on the Pikes Peak Cog Railway that climbs to the top of Pikes Peak. Looking at this famous peak, rising 12,110 feet above sea level, you will understand the meaning of "Rocky Mountain High!" This afternoon check into your hotel, but do not wander too far because tonight you will rejoin your fellow passengers for a farewell dinner.

Day 7

9/16/2022
After breakfast you will bid goodbye to Colorado and the Rocky Mountains as you transfer to the Denver International airport for your journey home.
