Civitavecchia stands as the primary port for Rome and central Italy, serving as a vital ferry link to Sardinia. Established by Emperor Trajan in the early 2nd century, this port city, located along the Tyrrhenian Sea, originally occupied a coastal area referred to as Centumcellae.
During the summer, Calvi's inviting beach becomes the focal point for locals and visitors alike, stretching generously to accommodate sun-seekers of all kinds. Lidos offer comfy sun loungers and umbrellas, while beach bars buzz with activity and water sports beckon adventurous souls.
Explore the maze of streets, each turn revealing new cafes, gelato shops, and charming eateries. In the late afternoon, ascend to the 15th-century citadel, where the Cathedrale St-Jean-Baptiste awaits with awe-inspiring views. Watch the sun melt into the western sea and retire to one of the bars or bistros for an aperitif or dinner.
Nestled in the heart of Tuscany along the Ligurian Sea, Livorno boasts a picturesque setting at the threshold of a cultivated coastal plain, embraced by the gentle Livornesi Hills. This bustling Italian hub serves as the nation's largest port, offering seamless connections to destinations across the Mediterranean and beyond.
Livorno exudes an old-world charm accentuated by its architectural gems. Explore the historic Fortezza Vecchia and the formidable Fortezza Nuova, icons of Livorno's storied past. Marvel at the regal monument to Ferdinand I, a splendid marble tribute to the grand duke, and admire the celebrated bronze masterpieces "The Four Moors" sculpted by Pietro Tacca.
Mountains of the purest marble tower over Marina di Carrara, offering a marvelous backdrop for photos.
It is so named because it is the port for one of Italy's most famous artisan products: Carrara marble. Throughout history, Carrara marble has been prized for its pristine quality, attracting the attention of esteemed figures such as the Romans, who employed it in the construction of their opulent villas. Renowned artists like Canova, the Pisanos, and Michelangelo journeyed to this hallowed land to personally select the marble for their timeless masterpieces.
Portovenere is the smallest seaside village within the La Spezia province. Its allure lies in the timeless splendor of its old castle, historic homes and churches, and the idyllic islands all around, adorned with enchanting grottoes waiting to be explored.
Dubbed the "Pearl of Tigullio" for its presence along the Gulf's embrace, Santa Margherita Ligure is among the most popular resorts on the Ligurian Riviera, framed between the sea and mountains. At the heart of the city is the church of San Giacomo di Corte, a timeless testament to its storied past dating back to the 17th century.
Santa Margherita is located on perhaps the most famous stretch of the Riviera, with chic Portofino a short stroll to the south and buzzy Rapallo to the north.
Portofino is famous for its unique beauty that combines the quintessence of Mediterranean nature with one of the most picturesque landscapes on the Italian coast. The village quickly became a hot spot for Europe's wealthiest people.
Monte Carlo sits on a stunning cliff at the foot of the Maritime Alps on the French Riviera. Near the quarter's western end is the world-famous Place du Casino, the gambling center that has made Monte Carlo an international byword for the extravagant display and reckless dispersal of wealth.
Nice is a vibrant seaside city and a hub of Mediterranean tourism, serving as the capital of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in southeastern France. Nestled on the Baie des Anges, just 20 miles from the Italian border, Nice is sheltered by beautiful hills, offering a pleasant climate, and stands as the leading resort city of the Cote d'Azur.
