Alleghany Adventure Scenic Train Ride

Experience the charm and beauty of Virginia's Shenandoah Valley as the Alleghany Special ventures westward from historic Staunton through beautiful farmland of the Shenandoah Valley, on a destination bound for the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests. Bounded by the Blue Ridge and Alleghany mountains, the Shenandoah Valley region is rich in historic and natural resources. This excursion will take you through the region's iconic rural landscapes — you'll pass by working farms with cattle, horses, and sheep. Views of the Alleghany Mountains will unfold as you venture west; it is a photographer's dream. The train turns around in the hamlet of Goshen in Rockbridge County.

 

Downtown, Staunton, Virgina

Staunton is more than you might expect. It's a friendly combination of small town USA and a vibrant cultural scene. It's the place you go to stroll red brick sidewalks, admire stunning architecture and shop locally-owned downtown boutiques.

 

Menu Choices

Smoked Chicken Sandwich: Smoked chicken breast seasoned to perfection and topped with our house sauce, served on a fresh brioche toasted bun. Served with a side of red skin potato salad.

 

Traditional Greek Salad, topped with Chicken: Traditional Greek salad topped with smoked chicken, black and green olives, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, and feta cheese — with raspberry vinaigrette dressing. Served with fresh pita bread on the side.

 

Carolina-Style Pulled-Pork BBQ Sandwich: Pulled pork BBQ, seasoned with a homemade rub and smoked until tender and juicy. Served on a brioche bun, with fried onions and homemade barbecue sauce. Served with homemade southern-style coleslaw.

 

House-Made Tomato Basil Soup, with Grilled Cheese: Tangy and rich tomato basil soup served with a savory grilled cheese sandwich on Texas Toast. Upon request, you may substitute the grilled cheese for a small house salad.

 

Dessert Choices: Classic New York Style Cheesecake, Tiramisu, or Triple-Layer Chocolate Cake

The train ride is a round-trip excursions, and passengers do not deboard until the ride is complete. Train runs rain or shine.

 

Due to the age and history of the passenger cars, stairs, narrow hallways, and other limitations make them inaccessible to persons utilizing walkers, wheelchairs, motorized scooters, etc.
