Adirondack Scenic Railroad

Discover the beauty of the Adirondacks aboard a two-hour scenic train ride through remote forests, past sparkling rivers, and over bridges, tranquil ponds, and streams. Look out for wildlife that brings this untouched landscape to life. We board our classic diesel locomotive train at the historic Utica Station, famous for its architectural beauty and lavish use of marble. Designed by Allen H. Stem and Alfred Fellheimer, these architects also designed other iconic rail stations, such as Michigan Central Station, the Art Deco Cincinnati Union Terminal, and even New York’s Grand Central Terminal. After a relaxing ride through the wildnerness in coach class, along the same railroad that carried the Webb, Morgan, Vanderbilt, Whitney, and Roosevelt families, we arrive at Thendara Station. This historic depot, once a bustling gateway for Gilded Age vacationers, now welcomes visitors with its rustic charm.

 

Raquette Lake Lunch Cruise

Enjoy a delightful Lunch Cruise aboard the W.W. Durant on Raquette Lake, the largest natural lake in the Adirondacks! Savor a delicious meal amidst stunning vistas. Steamtown National Historic Site

Step back in time at Steamtown National Historic Site, where the golden age of steam railroading comes to life. Explore the rich history of America’s railroads through engaging exhibits, a working roundhouse, and a fascinating collection of steam locomotives and vintage rail cars. Learn about the mechanics of steam power and the people who built, operated, and maintained these powerful machines.

 

Scranton Limited Train Excursion

Climb aboard an authentic, antique steam engine train and enjoy a round trip excursion through Scranton’s storied rail history. This scenic journey winds through the rail yard, crosses the Lackawanna River, and passes the Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel—once a grand railroad terminal. The train continues past the University of Scranton before looping back to Steamtown, soaking in the sights, sounds, and spirit of classic American rail travel along the way.

Dinner on day one is included at Delmonico's Restaurant

Meal will be served family-style and features a mixed greens salad with balsamic vinaigrette, freshly baked ciabatta bread with garlic butter, basil chicken, sliced sirloin, haddock bella vista, steamed broccoli, candied baby carrots, penne with marinara sauce, garlic mashed potatoes, along with mini cannoli for dessert. Soft drinks, coffee, and tea are included.

 

Lunch on day two is included aboard the W.W. Durant during the Raquette Lake Cruise

Lunch will be served buffet-style and features a mixed greens salad, French baguettes with butter, grilled marinated vegetables, garlic smashed potatoes, chicken in a pesto sherry cream sauce, and beef tips in a wine and mushroom sauce. Also included are a fresh fruit platter and apple crisp à la mode, along with coffee and tea.

Need to Know:

• Adirondack Railroad: The train is climate controlled for your comfort.

• Scranton Limited Train Excursion: Steamtown train rides utilize antique railroad cars from the early 20th century. These cars are not climate controlled. Sturdy walking shoes are recommended for touring the grounds and outside the museum area.

• Every Eyre trip includes deluxe round-trip motorcoach transportation from one or more of our departure locations.

• An Eyre Tour Director will accompany you on this trip.

• Baggage handling at hotels is included.

 

Accessibility:

• Adirondack Railroad: The train is wheelchair accessible, but scooters or motorized wheelchairs can’t be accommodated as they are too wide for the aisles. Please note that restrooms onboard are not wheelchair accessible.

• The Camp Sagamore walking tour covers about a third of a mile on gently sloping, paved paths. This distance is cumulative, with plenty of seating areas for resting along the way. Golf carts are also available for those with mobility challenges. Alternatively, visitors can enjoy PBS documentaries in the gift shop theater if they prefer not to take the tour.
