Mount Vernon Estate by Candlelight

Step back in time during a Mount Vernon Estate by Candlelight Tour, part of the historic estate’s celebration leading up to the 250th anniversary of American Independence. This enchanting evening experience invites you to discover holiday traditions of 18th-century Virginia while hearing engaging stories of Christmases past from knowledgeable, costumed interpreters portraying members of Washington’s family, friends, and the staff who lived and worked on the estate. As dusk settles in, the Mansion and grounds are illuminated by soft candlelight, recreating the warm atmosphere of a colonial-era Christmas at the home of George and Martha Washington. Guided through the estate, guests will see period holiday décor and learn about seasonal customs, family life, and winter celebrations in early America, creating a memorable holiday experience.

 

Meal Information:

 

Dinner is included at the Mount Vernon Inn. Choices are:

• Roasted Rosemary Chicken: Half chicken, roasted with rosemary, served with chef's choice of starch and vegetable

• Vegetable Lasagna: Multiple layers of fresh garden vegetables, cheese, and herbs

• Beef Tips: Sauteed beef tips with mushrooms and demi over mashed potatoes

Dinner is served with a garden salad, Mount Vernon Cherry Pie for dessert, along with iced tea or fountain drinks.

Accessibility:

• Mount Vernon Estate: The first floor of the Mansion is accessible; however, the historic section has many areas with uneven terrain and steep inclines. Standard, non-motorized wheelchairs and wheeled walkers are available free of charge inside the Ford Orientation Center on a first-come, first-served basis. Electric scooters are not available.
